What is a drone ?
A drone is a remotely piloted aircraft with no one on board.
It can carry a payload allowing it to carry out diverse
and varied missions: surveillance, cartography, video…
There are several names: Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS),
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicule (UAV).
The use of drones is supervised by the Decree of December 17, 2015
about the design and use of civil aircraft that circulate
with no one on board.
Decree of December 17, 2015 about the design and use of civil aircraft
that circulate with no one on board, in conditions of their
employment and required skills people who use them.
Performing a professional drone tele-pilot activity requires skills
techniques and theoretical acquired during a compulsory training
which returns of the framework of the legislation.
In most of these cases it is necessary to study your environment
and get authorizations either from the prefecture or from the DGAC.
Flying over private property avoids having to justify a scenario
provided that to respect the privacy of the neighborhood.
In all cases, the maximum authorized flight height is 150 meters.
These limitations can be restricted in the case of a sensitive area.
(ex: near aerodromes, airports ...)
S1 is the simplest scenario which requires no authorization only if its rules
are followed to the letter. This is a visual flight, outside a populated area,
and at a maximum of 200 meters from the remote pilot. The weight of the drone
must not exceed 25kg.
Flights in S2 are limited to 50m in height but at a horizontal distance of 1km.
If the drone weighs less than 2kg then it will be exceptionally authorized
to fly up to 150 meters high.
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is particularly suitable for this type of mission with
its weight less than 2kg and its significant autonomy.
Drones must however be equipped with an optional circuit breaker module
to claim to S2 approval. It is therefore possible to pilot without seeing
your aircraft provided that to be outside populated areas.
In any case, prior authorization from the DGAC is necessary for this type of flight.
The S3 is the only scenario that allows you to fly in populated or sensitive areas
and in built-up areas. The S3 scenario is accessible to drones without a parachute
weighing less than 2kg. Beyond this mass and this up to 8kg, it will be necessary
to equip your drone with a circuit breaker system and a parachute.
From 4kg the circuit breaker and the parachute must work with a power supply
and an independent transmitter. The pilot must be able to provide a certificate
which has been issued to him by the prefecture in the event of an inspection,
a specific DSAC IR authorization.
The Inspire 2 was specially designed to practice on this scenario.
The 4th and last scenario is the most specific of all because there is no distance limit
horizontal provided that it does not exceed 150 meters in height outside built-up areas.
This is an uncommon scenario which requires manned pilot training.
Very few people are qualified and authorized to carry out this type of flight.
They are generally aircraft type aircraft with long autonomy, for surveillance missions.
Classification of unmanned aircraft on board
Model aircraft under 25kg, powered or captive, exclusively
used for leisure or competition between model aircraft.
Leisure model aircraft weighing more than 25kg or not respecting
the propulsion criteria described for category A.
Captive aircraft weighing less than 25kg that are used for aerial work
(photo, video, thermography, observations, surveys, etc.)
Aircraft used for aerial work with a takeoff weight less than 2kg.
Non-Class C and D aircraft of a mass less than 25kg or by inference under 4kg.
Aircraft weighing less than 150kg.
Aircraft weighing more than 150kg.
